Capture a Screen Dump From The Command Prompt
- Place cursor on top title bar of command prompt window
- Click right mouse button
- Edit --> Mark --> Click left mouse button
- Depress left mouse button while highlighting text to be copied.
- Press the ENTER key == copies text to the "clip board" (called the "clip book" in XP).
- Position cursor where you want to paste the copied text, usually in an editor or wordprocessor.
- Simultaneously press the <Ctrl> and <v> keys == copies text from the clip board to the editor or wordprocessor.
Capture a Screen Dump of a Graphical Window
Note: Screen dumps of graphical components can only be pasted in applications that can hold graphical
components, such as a wordprocessor. A text editor such as NotePad or TextPad cannot contain a
graphical component.
- Place cursor on the graphical component.
- Click left mouse button
- Simultaneously press the <Alt> and <PrtScn> buttons == copies graphic to the "clip board" (called the
"clip book" in XP).
- Position cursor where you want to paste the copied text, usually in a wordprocessor.
- Simultaneously press the <Ctrl> and <v> keys == copies graphic from the clip board to the editor or wordprocessor.
- Position (move) the graphic by focusing the cursor on the graphic after it is in the wordprocessor -->
Drag the graphic to where you want to position.
